Rio +20, Time to Act!
The two main themes of the Conference:
- green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication, and
- the institutional framework for sustainable development.
Numerous organisations from all over the world, among which AS-PTA, the AgriCultures Network's Brazilian partner, gathered together last month in Washington DC. The purpose was that of realizing a shared wish: that Rio +20 will not turn into “just another high-level conference stating the need to eradicate hunger and poverty, stop climate change, the loss of biodiversity, soil erosion and other serious environmental problems – and then, after the conference, life goes on as before”. The result of the Washington DC meeting is a document entitled "Time to Act" containing 20 practical policy initiatives that can be immediately implemented.
If you too wish that Rio +20 will not be just another international conference on hunger and poverty, you are invited to give your support signature.
You are also invited to send your comments and suggestions on “Time to Act” at rio2012agcso@gmail.com until October 2011, when a new version of the document will be produced on the base of the received feedback.
