Partenariats pour l'apprentissage

This issue of AGRIDAPE looks at partnerships for learning, presenting many cases of farmers partnering with other farmers, NGOs and researchers to learn, exchange and organise themselves better.

Multi-stakeholder partnerships recognise small farmers’ contribution to knowledge building more than traditional forms of collaboration do. Different cases from the region confirm this. In Morocco, for instance, a research programme on rainwater collection and storage has reconsidered many traditional and local practices and made the introduction of new technologies more appropriate.

In Senegal, a district municipality and a horticultural farmers’ group were forced to sit together and talk about the problem of contaminated water, caused by the disposal of wastes in a nearby lake. One of the solutions was the idea of agricultural diversification. After some market research, the group members came up with alternative opportunities and received training to start new business and gain income.

Other cases come from Mali, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Argentine and they all show the value of partnerships and exchange.
