4 - Monocultures towards Sustainability
This edition, we look at the negative impact of monoculture especially of annual food crops and the alternatives that are being developed regarding the sustainability agriculture.
High input monoculture become a fundamental subject whenever farmer try to focus on market production or adopt the agrochemical model. The use of agrochemical is affected the natural biodiversity as well as wider environment. Technological, economic and political forces are driving agriculture towards monoculture and affect the small scalle farmers.
Therefore sustainable alternatives is needed. Participatory learning, research and exntension program that can be reach and mobilise diverse group of farmers playing important role to make shift from monoculture to biodiversity agriculture.
